About Tactical Tech
Tactical Tech is an international non-profit that builds the critical literacy of civil society and decision makers on the social, political, and environmental impacts of technology globally. Founded in 2003, it has pioneered work on digital security and privacy, digital investigation and advocacy, and now on critical literacy and AI. It has designed award-winning public engagement projects that have now been replicated in over 90 countries.
Working closely with partners worldwide, it turns complex debates about technology into resources that practitioners working in the public interest can use, adapt, and apply.
As an organisation that has been exploring the impact of technology on society for over 20 years, we have a lot to share: an established network of amazing partners from across the world, a track record of pioneering, forward-looking and award-winning projects, and a constant enthusiasm for meeting new audiences.
About the Role
We work at the intersection of technology and the public interest. It is a fast-moving, high-profile space, and this role is central to how we translate our strategy, get seen and deliver impact.
The Communications and Marketing Manager will work across the organisation: with the senior leadership team to strengthen our position in the sector and extend our reputation and relevance; with project teams to ensure our initiatives reach the right audiences and achieve their full potential; and with interns, supporting staff and freelancers to deliver day-to-day communications and business development activity.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced communicator who enjoys connecting ideas, people, and opportunities. You will be confident building relationships, spotting openings to grow our work, and shaping clear, engaging communications.
You generate ideas readily and, just as importantly, know how to follow through and make them happen thanks to your experience with production and implementation.
We are seeking a talented storyteller and content developer, with a strong track record, who is as comfortable developing, delivering and implementing communication and outreach strategies that inspire action as ensuring our audiences understand what we do, why it matters, and how it connects to their own priorities.
As part of a small team, this means shifting between big-picture thinking and rolling up your sleeves to get things done.
In short, as our Communications and Marketing Manager, you will infuse creativity, energy, and innovation into your work, collaborating closely with our team to elevate our impact and reach our full potential.
This role requires a proactive self-starter who can independently initiate processes, take ownership of the organisation’s communications, and deliver results, even under high-pressure situations.
This means the role is only suited to someone with at least five years solid experience in an equivalent role, preferably more.
Our working language internally and externally is English. The suitable candidate will be required to work a minimum of three days per week from our home at Publix, the House of Journalism and the Public Sphere, in Berlin.

  • Lead the development and implementation of integrated media, social media, and marketing campaigns that build the organisation’s and projects’ visibility and reputation in line with annual priorities
  • Oversee core communications channels, including the eNewsletter, social media, and website, working with interns and support staff to ensure consistency and quality

  • Drive the development of high-quality, well-designed communications materials, including project portfolios and core organisational messaging, ensuring they effectively support fundraising and articulate the value of our services and products
  • Own how we communicate our impact, setting direction for storytelling and reporting that underpins strong proposals, demonstrates credibility, and helps attract and retain partners
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to raise our profile, including awards, partnerships, and sector platforms, using sound judgement to prioritise where to invest limited time and resources
  • Oversee and continuously improve a shared set of organisational materials and communications assets, ensuring consistency, quality, and ease of use across teams working on proposals, partnerships, and outreach
