10 Tactics
10 Tactics uses film as a vehicle to bring groups together, spark discussion and activate new networks of activists interested in exploring the possibilities of digital tools and tactics for campaigning. The 10 Tactics documentary has been used in film screenings, festivals, workshops and trainings at more than 150 public events worldwide.
10 tactics for turning information into action documents 35 inspiring stories of info-activism from around the world. The film covers tactics such as how to: mobilise people, present complex data, amplify personal stories, visualise a message, and use humour to communicate a message. The fifteen cards feature detailed case studies, as well as tools and tips suggested by people who have used these tactics in different contexts.
The inspiration and much of the material for this project emerged from our Info-Activism camp in India, in February 2009, where 130 rights advocates, technologists and designers from around the world came together to share knowledge, experience and skills. We decided to document the success stories of many of these info-activists to inspire and support others.
The film has been translated into 20 languages (for info see here) and Tactical Tech is currently working with partner organisations to develop 10 tactics DVDs and websites in several languages including Spanish, Arabic and Burmese.
Feedback on this project
"The material is FANTASTIC. Folks in my office are fighting over a chance to have a look. I think it is an especially useful tool for trainers, such as myself, who are constantly on the look out for great, inspirational materials. I also like the versatility of it and just how attractive the design is. It is very portable too." Gina Sanchez, Greenpeace International, The Netherlands
"It's often difficult to explain how activism can benefit from using technology and 10 tactics demonstrates this in visceral, real ways. The film is diverse in gender, race, nationality which is powerful - it shows local and global activism and how tools which are presented often as complicated, are actually simple if explained and appropriated. I think there should be a 10 tactics2!"Jennifer Radloff, Association for Progressive Communications, South Africa
"Activists and campaigners are increasingly turning to digital technology and social media platforms to get their messages across..."10 Tactics for Turning Information into Action" provides a handbook in how best to disseminate their ideas.” Digital Planet, BBC, UK
