Security in-a-box new chapters

Two new chapters, "How to use Mobile Phones Securely" and "How to Protect Yourself and Your Data When Using Social Networking Sites", are now included in Tactical Tech and Frontline Human Rights Defenders' toolkit for activists. These are both important subjects not addressed in the original version of the toolkit which covers topics such as bypassing censorship, how to protect sensitive files, recover from information loss and protecting one's computer from malware and hackers.

The Mobile security chapter covers the threats relevant to mobile phones – including smartphones and pocket PC devices – and it discusses a number of simple steps to take in order to minimise these threats. The social networking chapter is focussed on helping activists understand how social networking websites, like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and many more, use and share the data of users. We recognise that social networking tools are key means for mobilising people and organising online communities around certain rights issues and so in this chapter our intention is to show how these tools can be used smartly, without revealing information you don't want to, for advocacy.
