ONO parties so far
Raising questions and having open discussions about freedom of expression, privacy and the risks of using new technologies is crucial for rights advocates today. ONO parties are a way for people to create a safe space with trusted friends and colleagues to have these important discussions.
We provide a series of short films to engage your audience in thinking about the new risks we are encountering in digital life and ideas on activities and talking points and the rest if up to the organisers and participants. There have been over 30 parties and we're supporting more.
The Survival in the Digital Age series follows the adventures of ONO the robot as he reveals the traces we all leave behind in our daily use of the internet, email and mobile phones and the ways that others can access our information and monitor our activities.
A sneak preview of the episode on Secure Email:
We're finding that these films provide a fun and non-threatening way for people to access the issue of digital security and walk away with some basic knowledge and ideas on how they can improve their own security. Some of the words we've been hearing from viewers so far are: "awesome, intelligent, brilliant, informative, useful, accessible"
Tactical Tech asks everyone who hosts an ONO party to photograph the event without revealing the identities of anyone there. Most people have been really creative and we have collected some fantastic photos over the last few months, including one of a giant ONO stenciled on the wall. We're waiting for a few more entries until we choose the best anonymous photo for a prize. See the set of photos we have so far.
If you want to use ONO's films for a discussion, workshop or training please get in touch with ONO at onorobot[at]tacticaltech.org. They are currently only distributed through house parties but they will be online soon!
For the latest news of the films' release online, follow ONO on Twitter, Facebook or sign up to the ONOtalks mailing list on ONO's website.
